choosing your child's glasses

Choosing your child’s glasses

Having to wear glasses for the first time can be a daunting experience for your child. Eyewear is such a significant addition to your child’s appearance, which is why it’s so important to choose glasses that make your child feel comfortable with their new look. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your child’s glasses.

Most children are pretty hard on their glasses and they can end up being dropped, sat on, or left at the bottom of the school bag. To save costly breakages, it is better to start with suitable frames for your child knowing that they will save you in the long run. Things to look for in frames are tough, flexible arms in materials such as plastics, stainless steel and titanium. For the lenses we recommended polycarbonate lenses for their superior impact resistance, lighter weight and UV protection. And a quality scratch resistance coating.

Generally, the more your child wears their glasses the more they will benefit from them. Glasses which tint (when exposed to light) can be a great solution for kids, because they are designed to be worn inside and outside.

At Rosser Optometry, we pride ourselves on finding the right fit for each face. This is particulary important in children who have different facial dimensions to adults. The better the fit, the better the effect of the glasses. When frames fit well your child’s vision will improve as the lens will sit in the correct position and do their job effectively. As your child grows their frames may need to be either updated or adjusted. Rosser Optometry offers complimentary frame adjustments as needed.

Include your child

It is important to include your child when choosing your child’s glasses. If your child likes the way their glasses look and feel they are much more likely to want to wear them. Including your child in the frame selection process is possibly the most important thing to do when choosing their frames. All the other frame selection criteria is null if they do not want to wear them. Luckily these days there are plenty of options to choose from. Designs are colourful, creative and unique so your child can find something that matches their own personality.
